Silver Cadillac Margarita is a special co*cktail with a perfect balance of 5 ingredients. Serve on the rocks or sip it with a straw. Either way, it will go great with any Mexican style meal or on any holiday. Bonus: a Copper Cadillac Margarita Recipe and a Margarita Pitcher Recipe inside!

Guess what? I've found my new favorite drink. And now you can make it too!

Forget about buying a bottled margarita mix, because it is so easy to make this drink from scratch. Your homemade margarita mix is so good you can drink it without the alcohol.

And this mix is so much better. It is deliciously refreshing, wonderfully smooth, and with the alcohol - a bit strong - just the way I like it.

This recipe makes 2 full 8 ounce Silver Cadillac Margarita co*cktails to sip on and enjoy the flavors.

The secret is the right balance and combination of some pretty great ingredients.

Bonus: with one simple adjustment, you can also make the Copper Cadillac Margarita. I give that recipe on further down the page too. You will have a hard time picking your favorite!

They are both fantastic precursors to any Mexican style meal. Here a just a few ideas.

  • Mexican Sloppy Joe Tacos are different than any other taco and they only that 20 minutes.
  • You get a crunch with Vegan Chicken Meatless Tacos and they will go so well with a Silver Cadillac Margarita.

But this classic co*cktail recipe can be served with just about anything and for any celebration.

FIRST, LET'S GEEK OUT ABOUT MARGARITAS

  • National Margarita Day is celebrated every year on February 22. The internet rumor has it that a few dozen bartenders founded it.
  • The World Championship is held every year in Arizona to see who makes the best margarita.
  • You can enjoy margaritas on the rocks (shaken with ice), frozen (blended with ice), or straight up (without ice).
  • The frozen version didn’t come about until 1971, that's when the first margarita machine was invented by a 26-year-old restaurateur.
  • They are one of the best-selling co*cktails in the US.
  • And what is even better, they're not complicated to make.

SILVER CADILLAC MARGARITA INGREDIENTS

  • Tequila - Any tequila will do but if you are looking to make a great drink, then I recommend reposado, a 100% agave tequila with delicate, smooth flavors!
  • Simple syrup - (see recipe below) added for sweetness.
  • Triple sec - A drier-style orange liqueur that adds a delicate balance to the smoother Cointreau.
  • Lime juice - the secret is the right amount of fresh-squeezed lime juice.
  • Cointreau - a top-shelf orange liqueur that has a crisp, smooth, and orange flavor. My go-to extra sumptin' sumptin' ingredient for this recipe.
  • Salt - to salt the rim of your glasses. Optional, but highly recommended.
  • Lime slices or wedges - added for garnish.

HOW TO MAKE SIMPLE SYRUP

For this drink recipe, I make my own little syrup concoction. It adds a delicious sweetness that blends all of the liquors and citrus flavors together.

  • Add ¼ cup organic granulated sugar and ¼ cup water to a small saucepan. This is how you can keep that silver color of the drink.
  • Bring to a boil and let cool.
  • This will give you 4 ounces of simple syrup and that is divided 2 ounces each for the two co*cktails.
  • To make the Copper Cadillac Margarita use ¼ cup coconut sugar instead of granulated white sugar. The rest of the recipe stays the same.

HOW TO MAKE A MARGARITA

  • This margarita in particular. I slice a couple of small slices through the center of the lime before I squeeze the lime for its juice. Then I have a pretty garnish, which is optional.
  • Pour all of the measurements into a two-cup or larger measuring cup (not the salt). Stir.
  • Sprinkle some salt into a saucer so that it will hit the rim of your glass when you dip it down.
  • Take a bit of your leftover squeezed lime and run it around the rim of your co*cktail glass.
  • Go straight down, rim first, and dip it into the salt.
  • Flip it over and fill the glass with ice carefully so that you don't knock off any of the salt.
  • Fill up your glass and garnish with the lime.

As promised here is the recipe for a large 64-ounce pitcher and it's ready to pour!

MARGARITA PITCHER RECIPE

This will serve 8 - 8 ounce drinks. It's the original recipe quadrupled.

  • 3 cups tequila
  • 2 cups simple syrup - which is 1 cup water and 1 cup organic granulated sugar brought to a boil and then cooled
  • 1 cup triple sec
  • 8 ounces (one cup) lime juice - fresh squeezed
  • 1 cup Cointreau

Put all of these ingredients into your pitcher and stir. Place in the refrigerator to get nice and cold and pour over ice for your company.

They may or may not want a salt rim so ask first.
