Ms. Linda Hayes Avent, 71, of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina,also known as, Lynn, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 20, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She was born on February 25, 1953 in Emporia, Virginia.

Linda graduated from Greensville County High School in Emporia, Virginia where she formed lasting friendships and fond memories. She furthered her education by receiving a Teacher Aide certificate from Halifax County Technical Institute in Weldon, North Carolina, deepening her passion for education.

She served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years. In her professional life, Linda dedicated herself to caring for others, serving as a caretaker for her mother, Mary Roberts, and later retiring from Peahill Unity Daycare as a beloved daycare teacher.

Linda's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted mother to her children, Felicia Avent Few (Patrick), of Henrico, NC, and Kendell Avent, of Garysburg, NC, and a loving grandmother to Icess Booker of Columbia, SC, Bryanna Booker of Smithfield, NC, Mercedes Booker and McKayla Booker both of Dallas, TX, Malaysia Northington and Damarion Northington, both of Garysburg, NC. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Nova Caldwell, Halo Caldwell, and Mansa Williams. Additionally, she shared a special bond with her surrogate son, Nick Brown of Virginia Beach, VA.

Linda was a woman who spoke her mind and was known for her kindness and generosity. She opened her home to others, providing shelter and love to those in need. Linda had a passion for cooking and entertaining, and her hospitality brought joy to all who knew her.

Linda was preceded in death by her biological parents, Francis Avent Roberts and Herbert Williams, as well as her adoptive parents, Charles Roberts, Sr. and Mary Avent Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Brenda Avent, Bettie Mason, and her brother, Charles Roberts, Jr.

She is survived by her brothers, Robert Avent and Kenneth Roberts, her sister Norma Green (Donald), and her uncles, David Avent (Joan) and Clyde Avent. Linda leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will deeply miss her presence in their lives.

Linda was baptized in her younger years and held a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ. Her love for her family, her unwavering faith, and her outspoken nature brought comfort, strength, and authenticity to all who knew her.

Linda will be deeply missed but will live on forever in the hearts of those who loved her.

A Visitation for Ms. Linda H. Avent will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 beginning at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Chapel of H D Pope Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. Services will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 12:00 noon at Macedonia Baptist Church, Emporia, VA 23487
