Cannabis Infused Coconut Oil Recipe (2024)

Is this resiliency orpure stubbornness?

Only time will tell. If I end up being the Oprah Winfrey/Rachael Ray/Martha Stewart/Grandmaster Funk of weed food, I’ll go with resiliency.

But for now, allI can do is share the very spiritual lesson that I learned from this ordeal. Just open up your heart and your third eye to receive this valuable universal feedback. Ready?

Here it goes:

So, when you think you learned all of your lessons and have something totally figured out…

When you think you’re totally covered and backed up and prepared…

When you’re like, “f*ck yes. I’m really starting to be a grownup business lady who’s getting my sh*t together”…

And when you start internally complaining about all of the little bumps in the road, wondering if you really want to be doing something else entirely, struggling with yourself about whether or not what you’re doing is the “right thing” or the “good thing” to do… Well…

That’s when you get a personal bitch slap delivered from the universe.

My personal universal bitch slap came in the form of losing over half of the sh*t I’d written and posted here on wakeandbakecookbook.com, plus all of the sh*t that came in the form of comments and emails through this site. And, really… I know… boo-f*cking-hoo. There are people starving and other people who drive Bugattis, and this existence just isn’t fair.

While I’d love to whine about it and tell you that I totally backed that sh*t up through godaddy and that they erased it anyway, and that this home-spun site was super tit* before all of that happened, I’m not going to do any of that (see what I did there?).

Instead… I’m going to take this opportunity to make this project even more tit* than before.

AND I’m going to talk to you about making the easiest damned cannabis coconut oil on the planet. Because that’s what I was put on this planet to do.

Hit the jump for the recipe and tutorial…

I’ll admit thatsometimes throughout this processI questioned whether sharing things like this cannabis infused coconut oil on the internet was really contributing to humanity, and whether or not I was going about it the right way, and whether or not this was my life’s purpose. But you know whatI realized when it all came crumbling down? Absolutely none of that sh*t mattered. What mattered was…

That I f*cking love doing this.

So before we get started, take a second tothink about what you could be taking for granted in your life right now. Is it your significant other? A beautiful talent that you’re kind of ashamed of? A passion or curiosity that the people in your life just don’t get? Something you’d love to do, but think is too stupid or a waste of time or won’t make any money? Your real doll? Whatever it is, really visualize it and how that thing/person/real doll makesyou feel

And take a moment to really really appreciate that sh*t before the universe delivers you a personal bitch slap.

You didn’t think you were reading a self help blog did you? Don’t think, just bake.

This cannabis infused coconut oil tutorial has been a long time in the making. I’ll have posts up soon about the importance of decarboxylation and using sunflower lecithin in your cannabis oil to increase absorption, but for now, you’ll just have to trust me that both of those things are essential to making the best cannabis coconut oil on the planet.

If you don’t have sunflower lecithin to add to your cannabis oil right now and want to get started anyway. No worries! Just decarb your marijuana, make your oil, order your sunflower lecithin online or pick some up at the store andadd it to your oil later or put it in your marijuana recipes when you get it. Same same, but different.

A couple of tips:

  1. Try to use organic shake or trim whenever possible.
  2. I made a pretty big batch when I was making (now available inHardcover ,Softcoverand digital download). You can make smaller or larger batches using a 1:1 ratio, making sure to use enough coconut oil to cover your cannabis completely.
  3. If your oil ever begins to smoke, remove from heat immediately and let it cool a bit before beginning the process again with your crockpot on the lowest setting. It’ll probably still “work” but you’re burning off some of the incredible compounds that evaporate at higher temperatures. If you constantlyfind yourself overheating your oil in your crockpot or on the stove (guilty), check out the Magical Butter machine.
  4. If you don’t have a crockpot, you can make the oil in a pot on the stove. Just follow the same instructions and make sure that your heat source is on super low and never starts to smoke.
  5. I’ll admit that I’ve nearly abandoned my crockpot for a Magical Butter machine these days. I honestly could not say more about what an incredible tool this is if you make lots of oils, tinctures or topicals. I’ll admit that I was a bit skeptical at first, because I don’t believe that making cannabis oil is hard (by any means), but my taste testers agree that it makesbetter oil (maybe because of the temperature stability and shorter duration). But I really think it shines in making quick honey and vegetable glycerine tinctures (more about that later). I’ve put that machinethrough a LOT. I am not a stranger to the customer service department at MB and they’ve always been there to answer questions and help me out when an experiment goes very very wrong. If you make more than 10 batches a year or if you’re a slave to convenience, the MB machine is where it’s at. If you’re ready want toretire your crockpot, here’s a $25 off coupon from Magical Butter.
  6. You don’t have to finely grind yourcannabis (in my experience, it makes it harder to strain, leaves a bunch of plant material in that makes for a “greener” taste, and doesn’t improve potency). However, if you’re using buds, break them up a bit before you add them to the coconut oil.
  7. On that note, don’t add water. You can, but it’s just a big mess and it is no bueno for oil flavor. I’ve experimented with this on several occasions and in my experience, it is unnecessary and downright ucky.
  8. Have fun! Don’t fret over your canna-oil when it’s in the pot. People on the internet make this much more complicated then it has to be (ahem). I was writing a book andhad to overthink it, but you totally don’t. This is a simple process and it should be enjoyable, not stressful. Just follow the instructions below, adapt or substitute for what you have on hand and don’t be afraid to experiment.

STEP 1: DECARBOXYLATION

Decarboxylation will make your oil potent, activated and ready-to-use.

1. Preheat oven to 240°

2. Spread onto a pyrex baking dish (or a baking sheet if it’s what you have on hand):

1 Cup (approximately 7g) of trim or slightly broken up buds

3. Bake trim for 1 hr.

4. Cool and store in an airtight container until use. Use an old gift card to scrape any goodness that sticks to the pan or pyrex dish.

STEP 2: INFUSING THE COCONUT OIL

1. Combine:

1 Cup Coconut Oil

1 t- 1 T Sunflower Lecithin: If you reeeeallly don’t like the flavor of lecithin use 1 teaspoon. Otherwise, use 1 Tablespoon per cup

in a crockpot on warm or low. *Try to keep oil near 160° for best results* For even better results, try the Magical Butter Machine.

2. Add:

1 Cup OrganicCannabis(about 7g or 1/4 oz.)Decarboxylated

Stir every half hour or so.

After 2-3 hours of heating and steeping, turn off the crockpot and allow the oil to cool before moving onto the next step.

3. Set up your strainer so it fits snugly in a container. Line with a large piece of cheesecloth.

4. Slowly pour plant matter and oil into the strainer.

5. Using a string or twist tie, gather the cheesecloth around the plant matter and secure.

6. Squeeeeeeze that sh*t.Save this satchel to make High Chai (coming soon).

7. Pour oil into a pint jar and place in the fridge until cool. Seal with a lid. Store in refrigerator or in a cool, dark place.

Spread it on toast. Make recipes with it. Rub it on your achy body parts.

*Always remember to test your dosage before putting it in recipes. Beginners… Start with 1/4-1/2teaspoon and wait for at least an hour before taking more.

*Disclaimer: Keep out of reach of children, pets and unstable adults. Do not operate heavy machinery under the influence of any intoxicant, including marijuana. This is not intended to treat or cure anything. I’m not a doctor. This recipe is intended for medical marijuanapatients and for those who live in states where cannabis has been legalized. Please support legalization efforts in your state and/or nation.
